Taking A Different View of Washington, D.C.

I have lived and/or worked in Washington, D.C., for most of my adult life. My family moved to DC in 1978, when my Dad - an officer in the Air Force - was assigned to the Pentagon. We lived at Bolling AFB, which is directly across the Potomac River from Washington National Airport.

I went to public high school in DC. Almost all of my classmates were native DC'ers, and many had never been to any of the museums or tourists attractions. I was so excited to be in DC that I would take classmates on city tours.

But after awhile, you think I can go whenever I want, and then you don't - unless someone comes to town for a visit. Today, I had a business lunch on Connecticut Ave. As part of the weight loss program, I decided to walk rather than take the subway.

On the way there, I walked past the Treasury Department and the White House. They closed down the section of Pennsylvania Ave right in front of the buildings, so you can walk in the middle of the street.

I forgot how lovely the White House is. Again, you take things for granted. Yesterday, the man and I watched a History Channel marathon on the presidents. And they kept showing shots of the White House. And then today, I got to take my own shot.
